Just Another Car on the Road:

Trash All Around Me

I was out working early today, Willie Nelson’s On the Road Again playing in my head. Up and down the road, client in, client out. I have to say, I love the different personalities that get in and out of the truck. That’s really what I focus on most of the time.

But today, as I waited for a client, I found myself sitting in a designated area surrounded by trash. Now, I can be a little persnickety, so it wasn’t exactly my ideal spot. What really got me, though, was the fact that I had some trash in my truck that I needed to get rid of. And for a moment, I had a thought—one I could actually feel: I could just toss it out right here. No one would notice a thing.

Isn’t that just like life? Sometimes we find ourselves in places surrounded by negativity—mean-spirited people, environments that don’t bring out our best. And in those moments, it’d be easy to just blend in, do what they do. When in Rome, right? No one would notice a thing.

But you would.

Alright, family, gotta go—my client’s coming.

This is Ralph, and I’m just another car on the road.
