Just Another Car on the Road: Dirty Windshield.
Like a kid, I still enjoy going through the carwash. I get giddy for some reason. It’s fascinating to watch all the moving parts. In the truck, I’ve got this panoramic moonroof, so while floating through the wash, I get a front-row view as the sprayers blast and brushes caress the body.
Once out of the tunnel and parked at the vacuum station, I’m looking at a shiny, glimmering, big, beautiful truck. All the gook and grime of previous drives—gone. I wipe it down, vacuum it out, strategically hide the little Black Ice tree, and I’m on my way.
When the truck is clean, I drive with a certain pride. Other drivers must see a reflection of me that’s respectable—maybe even enviable. I look good.
Then comes the first client… then the second, third, and so on. Inside, I’m still feeling sharp. Still proud. But the windshield starts to crust over. Bugs. Debris. Vision compromised.
Here’s what I know: I washed the truck. I saw it gleam. The inside still smells fresh. But—do I still look good?
Anyway, I’m working. Traffic moves fast out here. And it’s easy to assume: that the next lane is clear… that no one’s crossing… that your path is unobstructed. But here’s the truth I’ve learned out here—when you assume, you’re not looking. You’re just guessing.
The safest way to drive—the best way to seize the moment—isn’t just to look good. It’s to Look good.
Isn’t that just like life?
We clean up well. We strut out giddy and confident, presenting ourselves as progressive and successful. And to be fair, we feel good about the way we look. But if the cleaning isn’t consistent, the daily grind muddies our view.
We miss opportunities. We misjudge others. We walk around with a confidence that doesn’t match our clarity.
In life, just like in driving, it’s not enough to have cleaned up once. You have to keep cleaning that dirty windshield —so you don’t just look good…
You Look good.
This is Ralph, and I’m just another car on the road.
